MBB: Street Sweeper
Interactive performance Saturday 28 September 2013, from 2-5 pm
Location: Northwest corner of 12th & Vine streets, Philadelphia PA
Marginal Utility is pleased to present STREET SWEEPER, an interactive performance event by the MBB (Brian Artigue, Scott Schulties & C.J. Stahl) as a part of the PEARL STREET BLOCK PARTY hosted by the Asian Arts Initiative in Philadelphia.
The MBB interrogate how place and community are subjected to, and complicit in a system of cultural reward. Through a multimedia investigation that synchronizes social experiment, performative drawing, and sculptural attraction, they make an attempt to expand the discourse on the generosity of a creative action. In doing so they seek to enter conversations about behavior- specifically, the contention over the change of an activity’s meaning because of its context. They take steps to reveal the misdirection inherent in institutions that employ cultural capital as a tactic. Along with other singular, cultural producers, they include themselves in this interrogation.
The MMB performance will be a part of a day of performances, interactive artwork and displays hosted by artists and community groups including Jose Sebourne, Marginal Utility, Practice, and Vox Populi galleries, Fleisher Art Memorial’s ColorWheels van, the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, and Asian Arts Initiative’s Social Practice Lab artists-in-residence.
