#wehavenopresident: Leroy Johnson and Sarah McEneaney
6 April – 13 May 2018
Opening reception Friday, 6 April from 6 – 10 pm
Marginal Utility is proud to present #wehavenopresident an exhibition of prints and drawings by Philadelphia based artists Leroy Johnson and Sarah McEneaney.
Leroy Johnson and Sarah McEneaney have been making the drawings in the exhibition on a daily basis for the last few years in response to political news. The images are drawn quickly in the morning while reading the news and then posted to Instagram as a form of resistance to our current president.
Johnson and McEneaney are both interested in urban landscapes, particularly those close to their own homes. The architecture, seasons and people within the Philadelphia region have deeply informed their work for many decades.
They are both residents and dedicated grassroots community activists within the Chinatown North/Callowhill neighborhood in the city. Johnson has taught art to disadvantaged children in the community for many years and worked with Back Panthers in the 60’s in Philadelphia. McEneaney is one of the co-founders of the Callowhill Neighborhood Association in 2000 and is also one of the founding members of Friends of the Rail Park that is scheduled to open this summer. Both Johnson and McEneaney paint their lives in Philadelphia and they embody the lives that they paint.
A percentage of sales from the exhibition will be donated to the ACLU.
