Josias Figueirido: GIVE ME A LIGHT THAT I MAY WALK SAFELY INTO THE UNKOWN
1 December 2017 – 14 January 2018
Opening reception Friday, 1 December from 6 – 10 pm
Marginal Utility is proud to present GIVE ME A LIGHT THAT I MAY WALK SAFELY INTO THE UNKOWN, a solo exhibition of recent paintings by the Pennsylvania based artist Josias Figueirido.
The imaginary narratives depicted by Josias Figueirido emerge during the act of making, telling nonlinear stories that reflect how our minds construct images by layering memories upon present experience. Figueirido’s imagery comes from personal drawings, associations, memories, and historical references that he combines through different media, painting approaches, styles, and techniques to create paintings that unfold at varying speeds. Through his work, Josias addresses contemporary philosophical dilemmas such as searching for meaning while living with contradictions and struggling to find unity in complexity.
